In order to fully validate the
computational predictions conducted at the University of Exeter and
hence the viability and efficiency of the system, further studies
are required using a model sufficiently large to allow reliable scaling-up
calculations to be carried out. The turbine runner of this pilot study
model will be 2 metres high, with a diameter of 1 metre and will be
installed in a tidal situation.
Following the pilot study, a
full scale prototype will be be built to provide commercial data on
the viability of the design and its cost. This stage is likely to
require a large investment. It is anticipated that substantial
grant funding would be available for these development phases.
